Anti-Bullying Workshop

As part of The Anti-Bullying Alliance, we believe every student deserves a safe and inclusive learning environment. Bullying can have devastating consequences, and we're dedicated to supporting secondary schools in creating a culture of respect, understanding and kindness.

 This workshop includes:

What is bullying?

Understanding and managing conflict is crucial in growing up. Bullying isn't just a disagreement; research indicates it can profoundly affect a child's life long-term. To effectively prevent and respond to bullying, schools and other settings must adopt a clear, shared definition of bullying that everyone — parents, young people, and staff — understands.

STOP Bullying

Teach the students about how to use the acronym STOP to identify what is considered to be bullying and how to make is stop:  Is the behaviour and banter happening ‘Several Times On Purpose?’ and if it is, students then need to understand that they have to ‘Start Telling Other People.’

Banter or Bullying: Navigating the Line of Acceptability

In secondary schools, addressing the line between banter and bullying requires clear education and communication. Students should be taught to recognise the difference and understand that banter should never degrade or harm others. Establishing guidelines and consequences for crossing this line can help create a respectful and inclusive environment. Regular discussions and workshops on empathy, respect, and conflict resolution can further reinforce these principles, ensuring that students feel safe and supported while fostering a positive school culture.

How to ‘Write’ a Wrong

In secondary schools, poetry is a powerful tool against bullying. Student’s express experiences and emotions through poems on empathy, kindness, and bullying's impact. Teachers integrate poetry into classes, fostering reflection on behaviour and its effects. Readings, open mics, or school anthologies amplify student voices, promoting respect and understanding. Creative engagement cultivates empathy, fostering a culture of inclusivity and compassion.

Workshop on Addressing Self-centred Fear

As a poet working in secondary schools, I offer insightful sessions that delve into themes of self-centred fear and anxiety. Through poetry, students explore these emotions in a safe and expressive way, using UK spellings. My workshops encourage pupils to reflect on personal experiences and challenges, fostering empathy and understanding among peers. By creatively engaging with these themes, students develop valuable skills in self-expression and emotional resilience, contributing to a supportive school environment.

All the ideas from my workshop come from the book I have published called ‘Fear Tells Lies’.  The session focus on several concepts:

Fear Tells Lies:  Overcoming the debilitating fear that holds us back in life.

Just for Today: Using the power of Mindfulness to keep us grounded.

Attitude of Gratitude:  Being thankful in life for what we already have.

The Power of Thinking:  How to rewire our brain to think positively.

Find Your Tribe: Building your squad around you, those who keep you safe.

Celebrate You: Positive affirmations and to know that ‘You are enough!’
